Getting in to Blackboard
| Blackboard is accessed through the Hofstra Portal Log in using your Hofstra username and password. |

Once in the Hofstra Portal, click the Bb icon  to enter Hofstra Blackboard. Then click "OK" to agree to Hofstra's policy on the use of copyrighted material and enter Blackboard.

The Blackboard Main Page
| The Blackboard main page welcomes you to Blackboard and provides you with access to Modules such as Tools, My Announcements and My Courses. |

The My Courses Module
| The My Courses module provides you with access to the courses you are teaching and to the courses in which you are enrolled. The 200809_WSC_001_F19_Composition course is marked (unavailable). Unavailable means that the instructor has access to the course space which has been created with all of the students enrolled. The students will not see the link until the instructor uses the Control Panel to make the course Available.
The steps to make the course available are: Enter the course > Click Control Panel > Click Settings > Click Course availability > Click Yes > Click Submit. The Instructor must make the course available for the students to see the link to the course. |

Removing Courses from the My Courses List

On the right end of the bar that is labeled My Courses is a tiny pencil in a circle icon. You can click that pencil to edit the content of the My Courses Module and to remove links to courses from past semesters from the My Courses list. The steps to hide old courses are: Click the Pencil in a Circle icon on the My Courses bar > Uncheck to check boxes in each row next to each course you want to hide > Click Submit. Courses stay in Blackboard for two years. You can follow that pencil in a circle icon/link to restore a course that you had previously hidden. |

Getting into your course site
| Click the link in the My Courses module to one of your courses. |

The Blackboard Site Entry Page
| The link will take you to the default entry page in your Blackboard course site: the Announcements page. As you become more familiar with Blackboard, you may decide to Change the Entry Page. |

Left-Side Navigation
| The Left-side navigation links provide you and your students access to the various locations in your course site.
From Blackboard, you can access the Hofstra Library. The button at the top will take you andyour students to the [Hofstra University Libraries Electronic Research Databases] You can Customize the Left-Side Navigation Menu to reflect any method of organization that is useful for you and your students. If you think in terms of Authors, you can create links to Sections on Shakespeare and Milton. If you think in terms of Modules, you can createlinks to Module 1 and Module 2 etc. If you think in terms of weeks, you can create links to Week 1 and Week 2 etc. Blackboard lens itself to customization, so you can set the navigation to whatever organization will be useful. Below the Left-Side naviagtion Links you will see a link to the Control Panel. The answer to pretty much every question that begins, "How do I ___________ ___________ ___________ in Blackboard begins with, "Go to the Control Panel. |
