Using Groups in Blackboard
Using Blackboard's Groups tool allows a faculty member to divide up a large class into smaller collaborative groups. A group can then collaborate on projects, have their own Discussion Board and a private space to exchange documents. Some ideas for using groups include:
- Encourage peer review of papers before submitting them to the instructor.
- Keep the Discussion Board manageable with small groups of students, rather than keeping track of whole-class repsonses. This is especially unwieldy with classes larger than 10 or 12 students.
- Allow students to collaborate on a presentation.
- Facilitate debate between different groups assigned to a particular side of an argument.
